Lambeth Country Show / Urban Art

Wow! What an amazing event - and such a perfect day, location, vibe... Can't believe there is an event this big in our neighbourhood. Brockwell park is perfect as a venue, with a hill in the centre, and naturally sloping in all directions to create natural amphitheatres.

Just behind the Lido was the main Music stage, pumping out reggae with acts like The Twinkle Brothers and many others. there were two other stages as well as an arena for shows such as the Devil's Horsemen doing a medieval jousting show.

And the food! Despite the large number of jerk chicken stall the queues were still there - I'd say that was an endorsement. King coconuts freshly machete'd (if that's a word) are such a refreshing drink on a hot day.

I only found out about the show by chance reading the local paper, which usually doesn't get a look in - but glad I did. It's a fun day and lots of people enjoying the summer in a great open space.

There is another interesting event that happens on this day nearby - the Urban Art fair, running independently of the Country Show and just 10 minutes walk away in Josephine Avenue. It was started by a resident who is also an artist Timothy Sutton, as an idea to promote local artists and as a charity fund raiser as well. Great pieces at great prices on display and well worth a slot in the annual calendar.
