Airbourne Evening Extravaganzas

Visitors to the world’s biggest free flying extravaganza can enjoy the event all day and night long in 2010 with new evening entertainment every night at Eastbourne Airbourne from 12-15 August.

Eastbourne International Airshow is offering visitors the opportunity to extend their Airbourne experience into the evening with a packed programme of evening entertainment including Bandstand concerts, live bands and a spectacular firework display.

A five kilometre family fun run will be taking place in Raphael Park, Romford on Sunday 26 September at 10 am.

The Fun Run marks the start of Romfest, the annual event organised by Havering Council to celebrate the Cultural Olympiad and welcome the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Romfest, which takes place in Romford Market Place, is a part of a series of cultural events taking place all over the country in order to give people an opportunity to get involved in sports and cultural activities.

Alive ‘N’ Kicking - a free course aimed at getting families active and healthy - kicks off in Merton from 7 September.

Over the 12 week course, which is run by NHS Sutton and Merton and Merton Council, parents and children will learn about nutrition, weight management and getting active and having fun – all for free.

Activities will take place at The Hub, home of Tooting and Mitcham United Football Club and at Wimbledon YMCA. Each weekly session includes fun recipe challenges, an activity programme for children and an interactive healthy eating workshop for parents.

Limited Edition Postcards Celebrate Bandstand Birthday

A pair of limited edition postcards has been produced to celebrate Eastbourne Bandstand’s 75th Birthday in 2010 with an unusual photograph and colourful illustration capturing the iconic landmark and turned into a lasting souvenir.

A unique photograph showing the Bandstand’s reflection in a pair of sunglasses and a stained glass effect illustration were voted top in a competition launched to celebrate 75 years of the entertainment venue.

A spectacular image capturing an iconic Red Arrow Hawk flying over the South Downs has triumphed in the 2010 Eastbourne Airbourne Photo Competition beating off more than 200 entries.

The winning photograph taken by Andrew Campbell was a favourite amongst the judges showcasing one of the most popular flying displays against a backdrop of Eastbourne’s thriving beaches and breathtaking South Downs countryside.

FIRST DAY OF PLAYFEST ATTRACTS HUNDREDS OF CHILDREN TO CENTRAL PARK

The week-long Playfest began yesterday (Monday 2 August) in Central Park, Harold Hill, with several hundred children enjoying a range of activities, from face painting to wall climbing, circus skills to arts and crafts.

The annual event coincides with national Playday on Wednesday 4 August and is funded by a grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

The Mayor of Havering, Councillor Pam Light, who officially opened the event, said:

Sixties pop fans will be in for a treat at the 2010 Havering Show, when Liverpool’s Gerry and the Pacemakers take to the stage performing old classics such as ‘Ferry Cross the Mersey’, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and ‘I Like It’.

Keen cockneys will also be able to sing along to songs such as ‘Rabbit’ and ‘Ain’t no Pleasing You’ when Chas Hodges and his band perform all the classic Chas and Dave hits.
