Poole's Weekly Events 'Summertime in the South'

The UK’s sunniest seafront is offering a packed programme of family activities this summer including all new Kids Summertime Special Concerts at the iconic Eastbourne Bandstand.

Brand new for 2010, Eastbourne Bandstand has added a family concert to its entertainment programme every Tuesday during the school holidays with the Kids Summertime Special offering performances from children’s favourite movies such as High School Musical, Hannah Montana and Mamma Mia.

HAVERING INCREASES THE NUMBER OF FIRST CLASS PARKS FOR THE FOURTH YEAR RUNNING

Two more parks in Havering have been awarded the prestigious Green Flag, the national standard for parks and open spaces, taking the borough’s total number to eight, an increase for the fourth year running.

The latest parks in the borough to be honoured with Green Flags are St Andrew’s Park, Hornchurch and Lawns Park, Collier Row.

The two new parks join; Harold Wood Park, Cottons Park (Romford), Bedfords Park (Havering-atte-Bower), Hylands Park (Hornchuch), Lodge Farm Park (Romford) and Upminster Park, which all retained the flags they were awarded last year.

Council Kick Start New Small Businesses

After investing in an Eastbourne business 12 years ago and creating new units for small start-up businesses, The Stables in South Street has become a thriving base for design companies in Eastbourne.

In 1998 Eastbourne Borough Council and East Sussex County Council worked to provide funding for a business called Glide Design who wanted to turn a previously derelict South Street building into a base that would attract businesses looking to grow in the town.

NEW YOUTH CENTRE OPENS IN HAROLD HILL

The £1m renovation of the Betty Strathern Centre in Harold Hill was completed last week.

The complete refurbishment of the youth centre includes a new IT room, office space, kitchen, coffee and juice bar, gym equipment, new roofing, double glazed windows and areas for playing pool and table tennis.

To celebrate the end of the works, an opening ceremony was held on Friday 23 July and the management of the building was formally handed over to the Briar Community Association who played an active part in the renovation.

The official radio station for the world’s biggest free seafront airshow is returning to the airwaves from 9-15 August bringing live updates and commentary from Eastbourne International Airshow.

Specsavers are sponsoring Radio Airbourne again this year when it returns next month on 87.7FM to entertain airshow fans in the lead up and during Eastbourne Airbourne 2010.

Broadcasting 24 hours a day, brand new for this year, companies are being offered the opportunity to advertise on air or sponsor travel and weather updates, and reach an audience of thousands of listeners.

Fancy footwork to kick off Edgbarrow's official reopening and summer fun day

Edgbarrow Sports Centre's grand reopening will kick off with a special visit from a well-known footballer on Sunday, August 1.

Ex-Chelsea and Leeds United striker Tore Andre Flo, will be making sure there are no own goals during the celebration, which marks the centre's re-launch after a fire late last year.

Mr Flo, who has also represented his native Norway in international matches, will be joined by the Deputy Mayor of Bracknell Forest Cllr Chris Turrell and the centre's mascot Foxy to celebrate its much earlier than anticipated reopening.

A SUMMER OF SPACE CRAFT AND SPORTS FUN IN HAVERING

The summer holidays are here and the Council has organised a range of activities for children aged three to 15.

Libraries across the borough will be hosting space craft and stories where children aged three to five can design their own lunar landscape and build aliens and space ships from craft and recycled materials including bottles, cardboard and foil.

Councillor Paul Rochford, Cabinet Member for Children and Learning, said:
